PHOENIX 2 - a broker’s view.

Senior Partner, Director and Senior Sales Broker Rupert Nelson is very excited to introduce Burgess’ new Central Agency signing, the 90m (295ft) Lurssen PHOENIX2
Describe the yacht
She is an absolute, bona fide connoisseur’s yacht. This is my 33rd year in this business, always working in the south of France, and I can tell you with complete confidence that yachts of this quality are very few and far between.
When Lurssen and Winch meet, great things tend to happen, but both have excelled themselves in PHOENIX2, and I know they were driven to these heights by a very experienced owner engaged in the entire design and build process. He'd built a yacht with the same team, Lurssen and Winch, in a smiliar style, and this yacht is a precision refinement of that. So the owner had a crystal-clear concept in mind, knew exactly what he wanted and refused to settle for anything less. This is a no-expense-spared, money-no-object project. I’ve been aboard on several occasions and she excites me every time. There are still details I notice that make me think ‘This is a very special yacht.’
In pure statistics, she is a 90m (295ft) yacht delivered by Lurssen in 2010 with Winch Design throughout and refitted in 2019. Steel hull, aluminium superstructure, Lloyd’s classified and MCA compliant with 2,667GT, top speed of 18 knots, transoceanic range of 6,000nm, zero speed stabilisers. That’s all true, but the sum of the parts is so much more.
What are your first impressions of the yacht?
To be honest it’s difficult to wipe the smile off your face as you walk through the guest, crew and technical spaces, she is a pure delight. But with my broker’s hat on, the first thing that shouts out to me is that she is impeccably well maintained, totally unblemished.
This does not present as a 12-year-old yacht, she is pristine, like new. She returns to Lurssen every year for pre-season annual checks, maintenance and statutory class surveys, and I know the crew has very high professional standards so operationally she has been cherished.
What are her most appealing features?
Unquestionably it’s the attention to detail in the Gatsby-era, New York-inspired Art Deco interior. Jazz-age murals, rivetted aluminium spiral staircases, Speakeasy-style drapes, skyscraper-themed barstools – like a floating Chrysler building, she oozes Roaring-Twenties glamour.
It is obvious that the owner wanted to create something jaw-droppingly impressive and leave their guests in no doubt that they are in the presence of something truly special. It has been rumoured that, on a cost-per-square-metre basis, this is THE most expensive interior ever installed in a Lurssen yacht. Get on board and you’ll agree that’s entirely plausible.
On top of that, she has two touch-and-go helicopter landing pads, a Radio City-themed cinema with popcorn machine (again, the New York influence), a wellness deck with gym, steam room, massage and beauty salon and a spectacular indoor/outdoor ‘winter garden’ dining experience.
There’s an oversized swim platform that forms a perfect beach - you could easily hold a dinner party there - with hydraulic bathing steps into the sea for multi-generational access, an elevator from tank to bridge decks for the same reason and a huge 7.5m (24.6ft) oval pool on the sun deck.
The owner has a duplex apartment with a full-beam bedroom and bathroom on the main deck and a spiral staircase leading to a private day lounge, observation suite and office on the upper deck. On main, lower and upper decks there are an additional five-to-six staterooms as the lower deck VIP suite can convert into two separate cabins if required.
Dynamic positioning means she can visit places where anchoring is not allowed, the lower deck guest lobby has a sea terrace for easy boarding in any weather so her two 10m tenders, launched and recovered through lower deck shell doors, can get you wherever you need to be.
What type of client will buy her?
Several client profiles spring to mind. Obviously for a yacht of these dimensions, the pool of potential clients will be relatively small. That said, we’ll be targeting those clients we know, from several years of our own personal experiences in this sector of the market, that have particular interest in this size range, shipyard, year of build, Winch Design, the exterior styling points of more sophisticated interest, specifically in the elaborate interior design and the general styling and décor.
How will you market her?
A vessel of this calibre requires the very best attention and elite service when it comes to her marketing campaign. There will be a video and 360 virtual tour online, live broker tours on request, virtual or in person, either hard copy or digital brochure and, depending on the owner’s wishes, targeted marketing using social media where appropriate.
She's made a fantastic start with us as PHOENIX2 was THE headline yacht at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, exhibited on our alongside berth directly in front of the Burgess stand at the end of Quai Hirondelle.
